A City Girl Back in the City
World (Tokyo)...

January 27, 2006

I’m now back into city mode. I want to look at shops. I want to take the subway. I want to feel the energy of tons of people
around me. The perfect starting place for this kind of day is in Shibuya. I decided just to walk around aimlessly and just see
what I happened to stumble upon. I found the cool Prada store—the building is unlike any other that I’ve ever seen. I also
stumbled across a Yoku Moki store. This means nothing to anyone else (except for maybe my sister) but they sell these cookies
at Neiman Marcus and my mom used to always get them. So I stopped in the store and it was just awesome—turns out they
make pastries and chocolates in addition to the cookies. I got a couple for the road. I was headed off for Roppongi Hills where I
could go see the ‘Tokyo City View’. When I got there, I saw that this ‘view’ was going to cost me 1500 yen (about $13). Unless
this came with a drink included, they can keep the view to themselves. So I went down to the gardens since it was a nice day
out. So nice that I was able to take off my big white puffy jacket. What a relief! I’ve been feeling like that Malt-o-Meal boy ever
since I’ve been here. It was now time for some wine. After one glass, I was a bit more than buzzed. But because it was so good
and because it was warm enough for me to sit outside without a jacket on, I decided to go for another glass. After this, I was
drunk. No doubt about that! As crazy as this sounds, I was able to keep myself entertained with the thoughts going on in my
head. I just remember thinking how cool that was and how fortunate my friends are to be around me when I’m drinking. I
almost passed out at the hotel but pushed myself through and ended up wandering around the Ebisu area. After going to the
food garden on the bottom level of this complex, I was reminded yet again how amazing the food is over here!

I realized I still hadn’t been to Shinjuku so I decided to head out there a bit later on. Wow, that area is insane! Lights and people
everywhere you look! It’s definitely not one of the nicer areas but definitely an area that is to be seen.
