May Day in
Montevideo...

May Day! May Day! We have a problem! There isn’t ONE thing open in this city today!!!

Who knew May 1st was such a major holiday out here? Surely not us. Michelle had heard that things would be closed in Buenos
Aires. But for some reason, we thought that things would be different in Uruguay. Silly, silly us.

I guess we didn’t realize how lucky we were to find two restaurants opened during lunch. We ate something light knowing that we
wanted to come back for dinner – because how good did a fat steak and glazed sweet potatoes sound?

Rain made its appearance during the day. This meant ‘Jen’s Official Architectural Walking Tour’ would have to be postponed. A real
bummer. This would have been a great ‘tour’. Well, maybe not ‘great’. But it would have been
something to do (it would have
involved getting lost down the different streets and saying ‘Wow, that building is pretty. So is that one…’). Instead, we just holed up
in our loft-like room at our B&B. At times like this, it was a good thing for wi-fi access…

We were finally ready for dinner. We could already taste the steak and the sweet potatoes. But the thing I was really excited for
was the dessert I saw somebody eating at lunchtime. So we were ready. We headed out. We arrived. It was dark.
Very dark. It
turned out that our two trusty restaurants that were opened this afternoon are closed tonight for dinner. How can this be? So not
fair!

We are in a real ghost town right now. It is eerie, to be honest. We just stood on the terrace – not one light on down our street. Not
one! Nobody on the streets either. We just ate our dinner of toast with dulce de leche that is provided by the place we are staying in.
Definitely not as enjoyable as what I was envisioning just one hour ago…

There’s only one thing left for us to do tonight – watch the remaining Grey’s Anatomy episode that I have on my itunes. That being
said, I guess it’s time to stop journaling and see what is going on at Seattle Grace Hospital.

We only had a couple hours to roam around Montevideo as we had to catch our bus to Colonia del Sacramento at 10:00am. But
trust me – we saw more people in our first ten minutes on the streets than we did all day yesterday. The ‘ghost town’ feel officially
disappeared. Thank God!

Not much to report. We are on the bus now and I am looking forward to arriving in Colonia…
