Paris (December 2001)...
Journal from my New Year's Paris trip...
Eiffel Tower - One of the main touristy
attractions that must be done. (Luckily this
was done before it was tainted by Tom's
proposal to Katie.)
Arc d' Triomphe - I did this on my own
at the very end of my trip. It's great to walk
up to the top and see the views.
Musee d' Orsay - Hands down, this is my
favorite museum that I've been to. It has
pieces from all of the great impressionist
artists.
The Louvre - The first museum we went
to. I don't recommend this when you're
jet-lagged. It is huge and, when tired, can
be exhausting. This is known for the Mona
Lisa, Venus de Milo and, as of recently, the
DaVinci Code.
The Catacombs - This is something that
you don't hear too much about. While
claustrophobia can be a bit of an issue, it
was eerie and cool at the same time.
Champs Elysee - One of the most famous
boulevards in Paris. I was expecting lots of
the shops to be on this street but they
aren't. There is some shopping, lots of
restaurants, hotels, etc.
Le Lido - This was the cabaret we went to
on the Champs Elysee.
Notre Dame - The first thing we did when
we started walking around the city was
walk up to the top of Notre Dame. Great
views. Especially of the gargoyles.
Versailles - This is something that I did
on my own at the end of my trip. I met a
family while out there that I hung out with
for the rest of the day.
The Marais - I found out about this
neighborhood from the family I met at
Versailles. They took me to a falafel place
on Rue de Rosiers on a Sunday. This street
is extremely Jewish and it was one of the
most hoppin' scenes I saw while in Paris!
Cirque d'Hiver - This is a circus that I
found out about from the Versailles family.
It was cheap and it was great! Cirque du
Soleil-type of performers. Animals. French
clowns. Crepe stands during intermission.
