Iguazú Falls -
Brazil...
April 27, 2007

12:30pm

What was the first thing that came to mind when I saw Iguazú Falls in front of my eyes? Hot cocoa. Lots and lots of hot cocoa.

It was massive and impressive and had loads of waterfalls coming down. But all of the water was brown. I almost felt like I was in
Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory. I guess this was my fault for assuming the water was going to appear more clear/white in color.
Obviously not the case when you are bordering with Paraguay, huh?

Coming here, I already knew that the Brazil side offered panoramic views of the falls. As we walked further down the trail, the
scenery kept getting better and better. The combination of the spray and the sun created rainbows galore (this very well may have
been the first time I saw a full rainbow). Towards the end of the walkway there was a section (called ‘The Devil’s Throat) where
people could walk out and be directly above the water on the lower part of the falls. And on this day, the term ‘directly above the
water’ could not be more accurate. The water was high. Very high. Not only that, but there was more than just mist coming our
way. Within a few seconds time, we were absolutely drenched. Wearing jeans today now seemed like a very stupid idea. They were
now sticking to me. We stayed out there for a couple minutes as it was impossible to get wetter than we already were. By the time
we ended up on the main path again, we were passing people who were looking us up and down and couldn’t help but laugh. Yes,
that was how wet we were. I felt like saying “Hey! This is going to be YOU in a few minutes!” But really, we were laughing every
step of the way to the end of the trail. Feeling as if you are ten pounds heavier from wet clothing (never mind the fact that they
were wet from the oh-so-clean-looking cocoa-colored water) and having to slosh your way down a trail does tend to be a bit funny.

By this point, there was only one place we wanted to be: back at our hotel in a shower.

That moment finally arrived a few minutes ago. I am clean. I just stood underneath hot water for a little while. All is good in my
world now.

There is only one thing left to do…

Head to Argentina and check out Iguazú Falls from that side!
